I wrote a few months ago about making the most of my solar panel and battery system through a smart tariff designed for households with such a system called Octopus Flux. It’s time to update as I’m no longer on that tariff. Why? Because I’ve gone cosy – Cosy Octopus, that is.

I’m currently on the Octopus Flux tariff, which is designed specifically for households with solar panels and battery to maximise their electricity export income and reduce import from the grid.

Solar anniversary!

Today was our first solar anniversary – one whole year since our solar panels and battery were commissioned.

Since then checking the data logger figures and charts on the mobile app has become my obsession, and I have been looking forward to getting a full year’s worth of numbers to tally up.

We are solar charging our house

We are solar-charging our house with our roof-top PV panels and a battery.

This is something I had planned ever since we moved in at the end of 2027, but it was complicated by the fact that the survey for the house noted that the house had the original roof, and after 60 years it was coming to the end of its life soon. So it made sense to get solar panels installed at the same time as getting the house re-roofed. That’s an expensive job, so we decided to wait for a five years until we had enough money for a new roof. That time came in the early summer of 2002
