6月21〜22日に東京ビッグサイトで開催される第25回英日・日英翻訳国際会議「IJET-25」、いろいろ家庭の事情があったりして迷ったのですが、結局行くことに決めました！
1990年以来毎年開催されているこのイベント、開催地は日本と海外で毎年交代するので日本での開催としては13回目になるのですが、意外にも東京での開催は今回が初めてとのこと。多くの参加者が集まりそうで期待いっぱいです。
基調講演には、なんとNHK連続テレビ小説「花子とアン」の下敷きになった「アンのゆりかご 村岡花子の生涯」の著者で、翻訳家・村岡花子のお孫さんである村岡恵理が登場ということで、話題性もたっぷり。東京開催、25周年記念ということで今年はセッションの数も例年より多く、興味あるテーマがたくさんあって選ぶのに迷ってしまいそうです。
また、来年のIJET-26は英国ヨークで開催することが決まっており、私が一応（汗）実行委員長を務めているので、今回はそのための下見・勉強と来年の宣伝も兼ねての参加になります。
今回は比較的短い日本滞在になりますが、今回もできるだけたくさんの人と交流できればと思っていますのでよろしくお願いします。

So after much hesitating, I’ve finally — thanks in no small part to the subsidy offered by J-Net — registered to attend the 25th International Japanese-English Translation Conference (IJET-25), to be held on 21-22 June at Tokyo Big Sight, Japan.
This gathering of translators and interpreters working between Japanese and English, held annually since 1990 and alternating between Japan and English-speaking countries, has (much to my surprise) never been held in Tokyo before, and it’s expected to be a big one.
It will kick off with a keynote speech by Eri Muraoka, granddaughter of the famous translator of “Anne of Green Gables” Hanako Muraoka and author of Hanako’s biography on which the new NHK drama “Hanako and Anne” is based. Following that will be over 50 individual sessions crammed into two days instead of the usual 30 – with a wide range of interesting topics on offer, it’s going to be a nightmare to choose which ones to attend.
Am I excited? Yes of course – the IJET is always a fantastic opportunity for networking and I’m looking forward to meeting and reconnecting with as many fellow translators as possible, but this time I’m also a woman on a mission; IJET is coming back to Europe next year, and I’m (allegedly) chairing the organising committee of IJET-26 York, UK. So I’ll also be busy reccying, shadowing the committee members and learning, as well as promoting next year’s sure-to-be amazing event!
